Electrophysical Modalities

There are various electrophysical modalities that can be successfully used as a part of a therapy plan . Some of these therapeutic treatment methods include electrotherapy, thermotherapy, electromagnetic fields, and sound wave therapy.

Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy stimulates the body’s inherent healing mechanisms via a process called photobiomodulation. Through a combination of different wavelengths, power, and frequency of laser light Laser is able to achieve

improved healing times, pain reduction, increased circulation, and decreased swelling.

Fo therapy I use class 4 Laser.  This is the most powerful class of laser for therapeutic use. More power means higher doses of light can be delivered more quickly.
Treatment with a Laser is pain-free.
Most patients sense a mild, soothing warmth over the treated area.

Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy can be used for wound healing, pain control and relief, reduction of inflammation, muscle re-education, the reversal of atrophy, and strengthening. An application of electrical current through the skin, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is used to manage pain, stimulate muscles and nerves as well as post-operatively as a part of a rehabilitation plan.

Thermotherapy & Cryotherapy

Depending on the implication, hot and cold therapies can be applied. Thermotherapy is generally used to reduce pain.

Heat can be applied by infrared light, hot packs/rolls, therapeutic ultrasonography, and more. Heat therapy can result in vasodilation, decrease in pain, relaxed muscle tone, reduced muscle spasm, and an increase in tissue extensibility. It is often used before the massage session.

Cold therapy (cryotherapy) is commonly used in the acute period after injury or surgery. It can be applied by an ice bath/massage/pack. It helps relieve pain, increases vasoconstriction, reduces cellular metabolism, reduces swelling and decreases muscle spasms.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (or PEMF) Therapy can decrease pain and inflammation, increase the regeneration and the rate of tissue repair.

PEMF devices deliver electromagnetic fields to tissue to promote healing. The result is an increase in cellular communication and circulation, a decrease in inflammation and pain, and a resulting acceleration of healing.

It is a painless modality that can be used alone or as a part of multimodal treatment for better results.

PEMF therapy can be used in treating various conditions, such as osteoarthritis, edema, bone fractures, osteoporosis, tendinopathies, wounds, and more.

Sound wave therapy

Sound wave therapy or local vibration therapy supports the treatment of acute and chronic pain in the musculoskeletal system, as well as the consequences of a variety of neurological diseases. The Novafon device is very often used to treat pain associated with muscle, joint, and tendon diseases. Local vibration therapy is also used in rehabilitation for neurological diseases to treat spasticity and sensorimotor disorders.
